The Aspen Sweatshirt Sewing Pattern

This is a sewing pattern (not the finished garment) for a kids Sweatshirt – available as a digital download PDF or a paper pattern by post – see the Tech Specs tab for more details about the digital sewing pattern files.

This is a basic Sweatshirt Sewing Pattern for kids age 3 – 10 years.

Make it in super soft French Terry or Brush Backed Jersey.

All the seams are worked on the outside so it is great for all kids including those with tactile sensitivity.

The pattern has 2 variations- a curved hem and a straight hem. You can use bought ribbing for the bands OR the same fabric – just make sure your fabric has stretch.

Make it using up to 1 metre of fabric (160 cm wide) OR use scraps from pre-owned garments or your stash for a a more frugal option.

The Sweatshirt Features

1) drop Sleeves

2) Option for a curved hem.

3) Option for contrast ribs and cuffs.

4) Inside out seams – great for sensory kids.

5) Use oddments of fabric from your stash.

Features for your Sensory Child

  • The seams are worked on the outside so that the inside is smooth and has no scratchy itchy seam allowances or labels.
  • The  opening at the front creates a wider neckline so no struggles to pull it over the head.
  • Make the Tee shirt in recycled fabric (dad or mum’s old sweatshirt or a charity/thrift shop find), to avoid the use of stiff new fabrics and also save the planet.
